$700,000, twin-turbo supercar unveiled in Abby Cubey music video

Mosler has unveiled its latest road-going supercar – the carbon-chassised, twin-turbo V8-powered Raptor GTR – in a music video for Hong Kong musician Abby Cubey's song Feel My Fire. The song, which incorporates the Mosler's engine sound, will be pre-loaded into the in-car entertainment system of each Raptor GTR.

The $700,000 supercar has a carbon-fibre composite safety cell whihc is protected by deformable crash structures which absorb impact energy. As a result of the lightweight structure the Raptor GTR is said to weigh 1173kg – 128kg lighter than the McLaren MP4-12C (which also a carbon structure). Carbon is visible inside and outside the car to underline the importance of its lightweight construction.

Power comes from a 7.0-litre V8 engine with twin turbos, developing 838bhp. The turbochargers are visible from the back of the car and "generate a truly unique fighter jet soundtrack", according to Mosler. How the Raptor passes any noise inspections, either for road or track use, is unclear.

The combination of high power output and low weight is said to deliver a 0-60mph sprint time of just 2.3 seconds. A low centre of gravity allows the Raptor GTR to generate 1.4g lateral acceleration in corners.

For an additional $70,000 Mosler can provide even more performance, with a 1212bhp Cubey GTR engine upgrade. The package also includes an extra cooling radiator in the driver's side pod and ducts in the rear hatch to channel more air to the intercooler. Just 12 Cubey GTRs will be made, each with a power to weight ratio of more than 1bhp/kg – nearly double that of a Bugatti Veyron.

Mosler says China will be the largest market for the Raptor GTR.
