A zero emission vehicle (ZEV) produces no pollutant exhaust.
ZEVs are powered by electric batteries or hydrogen fuel cells.
Although a ZEV produces no local emissions, pollutants may be created elsewhere in the vehicle's energy cycle – eg in generation of electricity for charging batteries, or in the refining and storage of hydrogen. So a ZEV is not truly an 'emission free' transport system.
