A dog-engagement gearbox or 'dogbox' is a racing transmission without synchromesh.
A dogbox is stronger and allows faster gearchanges than a synchromesh transmission, but because there is no synchromesh changing gear is not as easy.
Not to be confused with a dogleg gearchange.
