A torsion bar is a metal bar or tube which acts as a spring.
In a suspension system using torsion bars, one end of the bar is solidly fixed to the chassis. The other end is twisted as the suspension moves up and down. The bar resists the twisting force, and this provides the spring effect.
An anti-roll bar, sway bar or stabilizer bar is a type of torsion bar.
