Body in white is the name given to a complete vehicle body prior to painting, trimming and fitting the mechanical components (above).
Body in white can also refer to the stage of the production process in which the body is assembled. For most cars this involves spot welding pressed steel panels together, though there is increasing use of aluminium alloy structures and alternatives such as glassfibre or carbonfibre reinforced plastic.
