Peugeot will unveil a crossover concept car at the Shanghai motor show later this month, alongside the Asian debut of the 508 saloon. The new concpet was developed entirely by Peugeot's China Tech Centre in Shanghai.

The 4x4 crossover has a petrol hybrid drivetrain and is claimed to be '100% adapted to the needs of the Chinese market of tomorrow.' It is said to demonstrate Peugeot's commitment to expanding its Chinese range to cover 'the most significant and profitable segments of the Chinese automobile market.'

Although saloon cars are popular in China, 4x4s and crossovers also sell well – driven in part by the very variable quality of roads outside China's main cities.

Peugeot, which is due to launch the RCZ in China in May, expects to sell 200,000 vehicles in the country during 2011.
