The steering axis is an imaginary line about which a steered wheel moves when the steering wheel is turned.
The steering axis is usually at an angle to the vertical. This angle is known as the king pin inclination (KPI).
If the steering axis meets the road surface in the centre of the tyre contact patch the car has centre point steering. Otherwise there is said to be a steering offset.
