Figures: Plug-in Prius tests

Toyota and EDF Energy have released statistics from their trial of Prius plug-in hybrids in London. Here are the numbers.

Toyota leased 20 plug-in hybrids (PHEV) versions of the third-generation Prius to London businesses and organisations.

The Prius PHEV can travel up to 12.5 miles on electric power alone.

It can reach 62mph on electric power.

The average journey was 7.3 miles.

59% of all journeys made were between 3.1 and 12.4 miles.

The average speed was 17.7mph.

In 69% of journeys the Prius averaged less than 18.6mph.

The Prius PHEVs were charged for 72 minutes at a time on average.

Toyota has similar programmes with 200 cars in 18 European countries.

Fuel consumption was 36% better than an equivalent diesel car across all the European tests, says Toyota.
